McFLY INTERVIEW
Emo and indie might be kicking the crap out every other kind of music right now but McFly have managed to hold their own thanks to the fact they're still coming up with top pop and are still so much fun to be around. We asked them to make some difficult decisions the last time we met up.

When you first started or where you are now?
HARRY: I'd have to say when we first started 'cos there were loads of new bands I was getting into.
TOM: And pop music was thriving. It was all really new.
DANNY: I kind of wish I could go back with all the experience I've got now. People think weird in the industry and not how I thought they would. They're so business headed it's unbelievable.
TOM: Not that it's all boring now but the music industry's changed. It's all different now, downloading music and all that stuff. There's no TV shows like POPWORLD and CD:UK or Ministry Of Mayhem. There's no magazines. It's all changed.

The Killers or My Chemical Romance?
TOM: Based on recent material I'd say My Chemical Romance. If you look at both their new singles I think the MCR one is awesome. The Killers one is a bit disappointing.
DANNY: I've liked more of The Killers songs but I love MCR's new song. I'd have to go with The Killers though. They have gone a bit weird but the third album will probably be amazing.
HARRY: I would say MCR but I really like The Killers as well.
DOUGIE: Yeah, My Chem.

So are you into the whole emo thing then?
DOUGIE: They're not emo anymore though.
TOM: Yeah, I heard their new album isn't emo in the slightest.
HARRY: Emo's becoming a genre as big as pop. I am into what they call emo but... TOM: You're not an emo.
HARRY: I'm not an emo, but who is?

'Cry Me A River' Justin or 'SexyBack' Timberlake?
ALL: 'Cry Me A River' Justin.
TOM: What happened to tunes like that? Just imagine if Justin had come back now with a song like 'Cry Me A River'?
DANNY: [Sings to tune of 'Like I Love You'] You've got a f*** face.
HARRY: You've got a f*** face?
TOM: [To Danny] What inspired you to randomly shout something out like that when we're with a perfectly lovely lady here?
DANNY: It's part of the song.
TOM: Oh, really. And they don't bleap it out on the radio or anything? He does say motherf***er in 'SexyBack', it's in every verse as well.
DANNY: When he was asked in an interview why he thought he was so successful he just said, 'Because I'm goddam good looking.'

Millions in cash and a compromised album or your masterpiece that nobody buys?
TOM: Millions in cash [laughs]. We've had a masterpiece that no one buys.
HARRY: Yeah, but if we did a masterpiece I'd want people to hear it and it would frustrate me if no one heard it.
TOM: Millions in cash means lots of people have heard it so we like to appeal to the masses.

Paris Hilton or Jordan?
TOM: Neither.
HARRY: Bit of both.
TOM: Jordan because we're more likely to bump into Jordan, so we'll be nice about her. Actually, Jordan was really nice when we met her.
HARRY: Peter Andre's a legend. I was expecting an invite to the wedding.
TOM: I was just about to say that. He always came and said hi and we got on.
HARRY: Pete's a really cool guy so mate, have another ceremony and invite us would you.

MySpace or real friends?
DOUGIE: MySpace is doing my head in. [Does sarcy voice] MySpace, MySpace, MySpace.
TOM: Yeah there's loads of rumours that start on Myspace that aren't true.
DANNY: Yeah, people are obsessed. People are gonna spend their whole lives on computers. You can't trust all this weird sh*t that goes on on the Internet. Credit to whoever created MySpace though.
TOM: He's swimming in his pool of cash as we speak.

Lily Allen or Charlotte Church?
HARRY: Lily Allen. I admire Charlotte Church's courage. Her courage and tenacity.

So do you guys like a girl that speaks her mind?
DOUGIE: Yeah she must get so much written about her, but she probably doesn't care. I think Charlotte Church is good but music-wise I'd probably say Lily Allen.

Girls Aloud or All Saints?
TOM: I would have to say All Saints
DANNY: If you put the two together, the strengths. Like the songwriting ability of All Saints but the pure dirt of Girls Aloud.
HARRY: Don't say that! God! They'll be like, 'Danny, why did you say we were dirty?'
DANNY: No, I just mean the sex appeal of Girls Aloud. I'm not saying All Saints aren't sexy because they are but Girls Aloud is more sexy-in-your-face. Not dirty, I didn't mean that.
HARRY: I'd pick Girls Aloud.
DANNY: I'd prefer to look at Girls Aloud but listen to All Saints.

Son Of Dork or Fighstar?
HARRY: Fightstar, sorry James. I think James is great and he's written some great pop songs in the past. They [SOD] have some good songs on their album but I really, really like Fightstar's music, I think it's really bloody good.

Alex and Alexa or Simon and Miquita?
HARRY: We can't answer that. TOM: Don't make us choose, it's like making us choose between our mum and our dad.
